The community garden at Bellambi Neighbourhood Centre was set up more than fifteen years ago. Originally a project for people in the local community who were out of work, the garden is used by all kinds of people. Pensioners, young people, and people with disabilities come to work in the garden. People come from "all over". The garden follows organic principles: mulching; composting; a worm farm; and a water tank. Companion planting is used also. A huge range of vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers are grown. Recycled water is stored in water tanks and used predominately in the beds.
